RMI-25 restores the additive package to your antifreeze/coolant. Over time, the rust/corrosion inhibitor additives of antifreeze/coolant degrade and become completely ineffective. This happens regardless of whether the engine is operated or not. The harmful consequence of this is that rust, corrosion and scale deposits develop within the cooling system. These destructive contaminants can quickly block critical cooling system passages, can create leaks at seals, and can cause pin-hole perforations in metal components. RMI-25 restores the crucial rust and corrosion inhibitors – and you are still protected against freeze-up as the ‘antifreeze’ component does nor degrade over time.
Oxygen equals Oxidation and accelerated erosion
Cooling system fluid is exposed to oxygen from the atmosphere. Dissolved oxygen in the coolant/water mix will cause oxidation. Oxidation results in the formation of acids, sludge, and contaminants that compromise the coolant’s effectiveness and accelerate its degradation.
Oxygen in the cooling system also escalates another problem, particularly in large diesel engines with wet-sleeve cylinder liners. As these large diesel engines run, excessive ultrasonic vibrations are created within the engine. The ultrasonic vibrations cause microscopic vapor bubbles to form in the coolant around the liner. During this process these tiny bubbles implode or collapse violently, producing shock waves against the liner’s wall. The shock waves erode small holes in the liner wall. This process is called Cavitation Corrosion or Erosion. Dissolved oxygen in the coolant/water mix significantly accelerates the erosion process. RMI-25 contains an active, concentrated Oxygen Scavenger component that binds the dissolved oxygen in an inert chemical reaction and eliminates it. This distinct action greatly reduces the potentially catastrophic damage caused by cavitation corrosion.
A lubricant for water pumps, seals and hoses
Does RMI-25 reduce the chance of water pump failure? Yes! Over 60% of water pump failures are caused by seal leakage. Normally, granulated rust and minerals circulate in your cooling system, acting as a grinding compound on your water pump seal and shaft, ultimately resulting in water pump failure. RMI-25 dissolves these granules into a soft material, and as the engine operates, the dissolved solids will safely purge out of the system and into the coolant recovery tank (if fitted).
In addition to the damage caused by rust and mineral scale, many of today’s problems are caused by electrochemical corrosion, causing ions to be formed within the cooling system. These ions drift throughout the cooling system attacking the inside of hoses and the surface of seals, reducing the effective life of these components. The lubricant contained in RMI-25 creates a barrier that prevents the damaging ions from causing premature deterioration of coolant hoses, component seals and gaskets.
Comprehensively clean and protect your cooling system
RMI-25 contains a powerful cleaner that breaks down rust, scale and corrosive deposits. It transforms these deposits from solids to a soft floating harmless gel-like material. These dissolved materials will not recombine or form blockages in the cooling system. In due course the materials will purge out of the system and into the coolant recovery tank.
In the case of vehicles with coolant filters, the dissolved materials will be safely caught in the filter where they can be manually removed. In approximately 15 hours of engine operation, a dirty system will be nearly completely clean. This cleaning action is continuous when the engine is in operation. Once the clean metal status is reached, an organic barrier is then formed on the clean metal preventing further contamination.
RMI-25 contains a very effective Water Conditioner. This component acts as a surfactant agent, improving heat transfer and making water much more efficient than coolant itself at dispersing heat throughout the cooling system. This action virtually eliminates damaging ‘hot spots’ and creates better temperature control throughout the entire system, substantially prolonging the life of all components.
