From the 1950s until about a decade ago, communities mainly used simple snow plowing and dry rock salt to manage winter roads and make driving safer. Recently, however, many have switched to using brine instead of rock salt, a more cost-effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly option. Brine is typically a 20-25% salt/water mix applied before or during winter storms to prevent icy, dangerous driving conditions.

However, while brine is a better option for clearing roads, it can be more corrosive to vehicles. It can penetrate and reach areas more easily than dry salt can, leading to an increased risk of rust and damage over time.

A day at the beach is a wonderful way to relax – a perfect summer adventure. However, exposing your vehicle to harmful beach sand and saltwater can increase your stress when it begins to rust. Rust and corrosion can cost you hundreds or even thousands of dollars on repairs, which will leave you feeling anything but relaxed.

Did you know that sea spray is one of the leading causes of vehicle corrosion in the United States? Not only can rust destroy your vehicle’s frame and chassis, but corrosion from salt can lead to leaking brake lines or fuel lines.

Just like winter-treated roads, the beach is covered in crystallized salt, which can do just as much damage to the undercarriage of your car. Think about this: if you’ve ever gone home from a day of driving along the beach and continued to find sand in your things and inside your vehicle for days afterward, then just imagine all the places where sand (crystallized salt) can get stuck under your vehicle!

Almost any type of road salt can be problematic for your vehicle. It is essential to protect your vehicle against and counteract the corrosive effects of salt.

The so-easy-to-use spray bottle application is perfect for both new and older vehicles. Just spray it on! No paintbrush or roller is needed!

COVERAGE: 1 Liter will cover most small to medium vehicle underbodies. (Up to approximately 270 ft2 /25 m2 on clean, well prepared surfaces.)

DRYING TIME: 6 – 12 hours per coat, depending on conditions.

When possible, apply a second coat 4 to 6 hours after first coat.

Step 1 – Underbody detergent wash
Step 2 – Underbody degrease
Step 3 – Once dry, apply a light coat of Chassis Guard
Step 4 – Apply a second, heavy coat of Xtroll Chassis Guard after initial dry time.

Standard vehicle application:
For any Non-New vehicle, we recommend firstly removing as much road dirt and grime as possible. This procedure gives Xtroll Chassis Guard a lot more contact with the underbody surfaces, creating better adhesion and providing a longer-lasting application that may only need to be reapplied every 12 months.
Then follow steps as per New Vehicle application.

In extremely salty environments, Xtroll Chassis Guard may need to be reapplied every 12 months.
For best results, allow 7 days final drying time before introducing the vehicle to a saltwater environment (beach driving).

Avoid overspray so as not to damage paintwork – underbody/chassis application only.

Avoid spraying Chassis Guard onto all electronic sensors and wiring connectors.

Xtroll Chassis Guard – After Salted Road, Beach, or Off-Road Maintenance

The best thing about Xtroll Chassis Guard is once it’s applied, how easy it is to wash away salt and sand after hitting the beach or exposure to salted roads during the snow season, or even getting into some ultimate off-roading. The barrier created by Chassis Guard only requires a prudent water wash-down to remove any remaining salty residue, as well as sand and other grit and grime.

A water hose-off is sufficient.

Whether it’s beach, salted road, or any off the beaten track exposure, afterwards, give your vehicle a decent wash down. If possible, hose out the chassis rails, and park the vehicle over a garden sprinkler for a couple of hours. Try to avoid using a pressure cleaner – that can force the sand/salt/grit into tiny gaps. Instead, use low pressure/high volume water to wash the gunk and grime off.

When washing under your vehicle post beach, salted roads, or off-road adventure, do not apply the following to the underside of the vehicle as this can make the Chassis Guard less effective –

    • Degreasers
    • Detergents or heavy solvents.
    • Presoak cleaners.
